Picnic Groves

Ride the train to our convenient picnic groves – recreational areas along the train’s route for mid-way boarding or unloading. Board the train with your picnic basket or cooler, and let your trainman know you wish to get off at one of our groves!

Groff’s Grove is conveniently located near Cherry Crest Adventure Farm. This is your location to access the corn maze, or to enjoy a relaxing picnic at the Grove itself. Swings, a merry-go-round and see saws will entertain the kids while you sit back and enjoy the view. Amenities at Groff’s Grove include picnic tables, charcoal grills, hand-pumped potable water, and porta potties.

To enjoy Groff’s Grove, flag down your trainman as he’s collecting tickets and let him know you wish to disembark. The train will proceed to the end of the line, and then, on the return trip, it will stop at the Grove. Just pick up any later train to complete the ride and return to the Station.

Leaman Place Grove is the newest picnic area at the end of the 4.5 mile track. Passengers may disembark here to enjoy a picnic lunch among shade trees. Situated adjacent to the active Amtrak line, a speeding train may pass like a bullet. After lunch the next train will bring passengers back to the station. Amenities at Leaman Place Grove include a few picnic tables, a charcoal grill, and a porta potty.

To make use of Leaman Place Grove, let your trainman know you wish to disembark. When the train arrives at its stopping point in Paradise, carefully get off the train, and follow the red gravel path back to the picnic grove. Be sure to use the utmost of caution and only cross the tracks at the designated pedestrian crossing. Just pick up any later train to complete the ride and return to the Station.

NOTE: Strasburg Rail Road’s picnic groves are generally open April through October.
