Take your group on an exclusive behind-the-scenes tour of the Strasburg Rail Road’s world-renowned mechanical and car shops! Experience the shops where historic steam trains are built, refurbished, restored, and returned to service! It is a unique Lancaster County tour! Your group will discover a renewed appreciation for the American ingenuity and craftsmanship that helped build the railroads in the 19th and early 20th centuries.

Shop Tours in 2020 are offered at 12:00 p.m. on Fridays and 12:00 and 2:00 pm. on Saturdays, and Sundays and coordinate nicely with a train ride. Shop tours may be scheduled on other weekdays to accommodate your group’s needs. NOTE: Due to the safety of our guests and your group, the 12:00 p.m. departure time must be adhered to; tours departing at any other time during weekdays cannot be accommodated. Tours outside of the normal Friday through Sunday schedule must be scheduled no less than two (2) weeks in advance.

A discounted group rate is offered for groups of ten (10) or more paying individuals. The standard tour can accommodate groups totaling 10 to 54 people. NOTE: For guests’ safety, groups of more than 25 will be split into two (2) separate tour groups departing at the same time.

All tour ticket holders must sign a release which will be provided at the Station upon check-in. The release ensures that the tour participant acknowledges that he/she will be entering an area where railroad industrial activity is performed, including the use of heavy, moving machinery and other hazards associated with a railroad or industrial facility. Due to the nature of the facility, this tour is not accessible for those requiring a mobility device. The release holder agrees to assume all risk of illness or injury and hold the Rail Road harmless for any illness/injury that occurs while the holder is on the tour.

Closed-toe shoes are required. Persons wearing opened-toe shoes will not be permitted on the tour, with no option for refund. High heels are strongly discouraged. Photography and videography are both strictly prohibited.

Children under the age of 5 are not permitted on the Shop Tour. Ages 5 through 17 must be accompanied by an adult and/or responsible group leader.
