Rail & Road Invitation Letter
Dear antique vehicle club representative or antique vehicle owner,
“Rail & Road: A Transportation Evolution” is being held October 12, 13, & 14 at the Strasburg Rail Road as part of our 5-week long celebration of the visit of Norfolk and Western Railway steam locomotive #611 from the Virginia Museum of Transportation.
This event will be a showcase of land transportation technology from the first 60 years of the 20th Century. In addition to regularly scheduled passenger trains pulled by one of our carefully restored steam locomotives, we will be offering several special opportunities to our visitors. For three days we will turn our parking lot into a display area for antique cars, trucks, busses, motorcycles, and any other thing on wheels built between 1900 and 1960. Additionally, we will be offering special behind-the-scenes tours with one of three operating steam locomotives, including the “Queen of Steam”, the #611, as well as featuring displays from organizations such as the Virginia Museum of Transportation, Norfolk & Western Railway Historical Society, and the National Railway Historical Society, etc.
We invite you and/or your club’s members join us for this exciting weekend. All antique vehicles built between circa 1900 and 1960 are welcome to be displayed in the railroad parking lot for all or any portion of the days of the event. There is no registration fee for this event and vehicles and their owners will be free to come and go as they please. Regular customer parking during this event will be in a satellite location served by shuttle buses and subject to a $20 fee per car. Only antique vehicles will be permitted in the railroad parking lot and will not be charged for parking. In addition to free parking and display space, owners will also be afforded the unique opportunity of being able to pose their vehicle with either the #611 or Strasburg Rail Road’s steam locomotive #475 for photographs.
Event times are:
Saturday & Sunday, October 12-13, 8:00 am to 7:00 pm
Monday, October 14, 8:00 am to 3:00 pm
Just a few reminders for anyone considering attending; the Strasburg Rail Road is a family-friendly destination and we request that any displays be appropriate for all audiences. Also, we prefer antique, historical vehicles only for this event. Non-historic street rods or heavily modified or customized vehicles are discouraged.
If you or your club membership are interested in joining us, we encourage you to respond via email to firstname.lastname@example.org. Please let us know what vehicle(s) you plan to display and on which days. Also, if you know of other groups or individuals who may be interested in participating, please pass this invitation along.
We hope you can join us in October!
